Oman Health 2026: A New Year of Growth, Quality Care, and Resilience

As Oman welcomes 2026, the nation’s health sector enters a year marked by measurable progress and renewed focus on quality, access, and innovation. In 2025, public satisfaction with healthcare services in Oman reached 81.8 %, up significantly from 73.4 % in 2023, signaling growing confidence in services across both public and private facilities.

Strategic investment continued to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. In 2023 alone, the Ministry of Health’s expenditure topped over OMR 1 billion, a 24.6 % increase from the year before, driving expansion and enhancement of hospital capacity and medical services across the Sultanate. The total number of hospitals reached 92, with 7,691 hospital beds, increasing the bed‑to‑population ratio to 14.9 per 10,000 people, up from 14.7 in 2022 : a key indicator of broader access to care.

Surgical and specialist care also expanded; in 2023, more than 86,900 surgical operations were performed across Ministry of Health facilities, reflecting advancements in clinical capacity and specialist services.

The country’s health workforce is evolving too. Oman has increased the number of doctors per 10,000 population in public facilities from 12.9 to 13.7 between 2020 and 2024, while overall health institutions grew by 50 % since 2020 to 2,384 facilities, demonstrating broad expansion in healthcare delivery points. Efforts to build a resilient local workforce continue, with the Omanisation rate for doctors in Ministry of Health institutions rising to 44 %, a steady movement toward greater national participation in medical professions.

Key health outcomes reaffirm the value of these investments. Infant mortality has declined, with the rate at 8.5 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2023, while under‑five mortality also decreased: indicators of improved maternal and child health services.

Looking forward to 2026, Oman’s health sector is positioned to build on this momentum. Continued investments in digital health, preventive care, and specialised services will support broader access and better outcomes for communities across the Sultanate. With strong public satisfaction, expanding facilities, and a growing qualified workforce, Oman Health 2026 marks not just a new year, but a new chapter in delivering equitable, quality healthcare for all.
